Jonathan Speed ’84, one of our African American trustee emeriti, worked with Brown’s CareerLAB, Computer Science Department and Engineering School as well as Alumni Relations to establish the Brown West Coast Summer Intern Program, 2012. A number of companies have been engaged to provide summer internships for Brown students, and Jonathan wants students of color to hear about this program and be engaged as recipients of these opportunities.
About the program:
Brown alumni around the world offer invaluable support and resources for current students. Whether volunteering to discuss their industry fields and career paths, creating internships for Brown students, recruiting for full-time positions, or talking about career and life questions in general, Brown alumni bring a particular understanding of the transition to life after Brown.
The Brown West Coast Summer Internship Program fosters a unique partnership between alumni and undergraduate students. The pilot program will provide meaningful work experiences which include alumni mentorship, informal networking events and a glimpse of life after Brown.
How to get started:
Post your position on the Brown Student & Internship Board.
1. Go to https://brown-csm.symplicity.com/employers and create an employer profile for your organization.
2. Within 24 hours your profile will be approved and you’ll receive an e-mail from Karen Clancy, Employer Relations Manager, with instructions for posting the internship description.
3. Include “Brown West Coast” at the beginning of your job title. For example
4. You’re done! Brown students can now see and apply for your internship.
