Alumni & Student Relations
Purpose: Facilitate an ongoing healthy relationship between Black alumni and Black students at Brown
Objectives:
CURRENT STUDENTS (UNDERGRADUATE, GRADUATE & MEDICAL)
- Strengthen the sense of community among Brown’s black alumni and current students by hosting at least one event on campus per year (i.e. forum discussion, party).
- Increase black alumni participation in BRUnet, an online career networking tool to connect students and alumni. Alumni share their professional experiences with Brown alumni and students through informational interviews conducted via e-mail, phone or in person (as of December 2008 only124 of the 3,600 black alumni are registered on BRUnet).
- Identify alumni and students (both distributed across years represented by constituents) to serve as committee members.
- Obtain copies of the student publication African Sun on a regular basis to remain connected to campus-related news and issues.
PROSECTIVE STUDENTS
- Increase matriculation rates among prospective black students by contacting them to encourage them to choose Brown. This initiative is a partnership with the Admissions Office.
- Host events to connect prospective students to alumni and demonstrate the strength of the black Brown alumni network.
- Leverage existing programs at Brown to increase educational opportunities for prospective Black students that encourage them to choose Brown (i.e. SPARK and Ethel Tremaine Robinson grants).
- Identify other potential educational programs (i.e. Leadership Alliance).
